Satiny Salad Dressing

Just a quick post for now… When you’re sick of commercial or overly acidic salad dressings, why don’t you try this puppy out?  I first latched on to this type of dressing/sauce after snarfing down a fantastic Dragon Bowl at Aux Vivres. Simple yet elegant: bowl of brown rice drizzled with dragon sauce, fresh veggies and topped with optional grilled tofu (which, in my book, is never optional). I loved it so much that I decided to spend every waking moment try to duplicate the sauce. I’ve more or less succeeded, but that’s actually the subject of a different post. While I was on the road to dragon enlightenment, I found my new favourite salad dressing – a cold version of Aux Vivres’ dragon sauce.

You’ll need a blender and Live‘s Lightning Crashes.

Combine the following ingredients and push ON:

  • 0.5 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 inch garlic paste
  • 0.5 tsp mustard
  • 2 tsp roasted sesame oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 4 tsp sunflower oil
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp sea salt, depending on how salty you like things

Bzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzzz and you’re done! Drizzle over salad, rice, seitan, anything! Sprinkle with roasted sesame seeds if you’re feeling schmancy. I also recommend using this dressing on a salad sprinkled with roasted chickpeas for a completely delicious meal.
